Golden: By Cameron Dokey


“But on the day your child arrives if it is a girl, and I very much think it will be you must swear to love her just as she is…..” (8). These are the words the sorceress foretold to Rapunzel’s mother a few days before she was born. The book Golden by Cameron Dokey, is a novel chronicling Rapunzel’s tale. As a baby, a sorceress raised Rapunzel because her mother disowned her love for her ignoring what the sorceress had said to her. After a peaceful childhood with the sorceress, her life takes an unexpected turn when a dramatic twist of events happens and Rapunzel is forced to leave her home and most of her belongings. Where to? A tower? Where a girl with beautiful long hair is awaiting to be let out? This suspenseful novel filled with romance and adventure will leave you questioning every thing you ever knew from the fairy tales of Rapunzel.

  4. Before I read this book review, I never would have picked up this book. But now I really want to read this interesting new twist on this classic fairy tale. Great job :)
