The Pendragon Series, Book Nine: Raven Rise, by DJ MacHale

In the ninth installment of the Pendragon series, the main character, Bobby Pendragon, journeys to save Halla, or the universe. Bobby is unlike other people, though, because he is a traveler, a special being who’s destiny is to protect the ten territories or planets that make up Halla. Alternatively, the travelers’ arch enemy, Saint Dane, is trying to destroy the territories by intermixing certain objects between them, a feat he refers to as the Convergence. This way, when everything crumbles, Saint Dane can rebuild it all with himself as ruler. Moreover, in this story, the battle journeys to the three earth territories; First Earth - 1937, Second Earth - the early 21st century, and Third Earth - 5010. Back on Denduron (another territory), Bobby and fellow traveler, Alder, come to a conclusion, “There are still two territories that haven’t been targeted. Second and Third Earth,” said Bobby. Going back to earth, they are shocked to find a cult, Ravinia, which is lead by Saint Dane and a bad traveler, Alexander Naymeer, that is open to the public about the secret of the travelers. It is now up to Bobby and all travelers to save Halla and prevent the Convergence from happening in this suspenseful, page-turning novel by DJ MacHale. Throughout the book, which is written partial from Bobby (his journals), and partial from a narrator, there are many small jokes and funny situations despite its serious atmosphere. From my point of view, this book was very fast paced (as is the series), and quite complex in that it makes you think, which is a good thing. Overall, I would recommend this book to those interested in science fiction and fantasy, because even though the majority of it is made-up, it is all based off of real life and history.

  3. It sounds like an interesting series, but seems like there are to many books in the series for me to read.
