Violet on the Runway, by Melissa Walker

Violet on the Runway, by Melissa Walker, tells the story of a teenage girl named Violet Greenfield who is a senior at Chapel Hill High. She is pretty much your average girl; she likes school, hanging out with her friends, and working part time at the local theater. The only thing is, Violet is extremely insecure about herself. She thinks she is too tall, too skinny, and feels as if she doesn’t have a place in her atmosphere, until Angela Blythe walks into her life. Angela is a modeling agent from Tryst models, and soon changes Violets life forever. I thought this book was amazing! The characters were very believable and realistic. Melissa Walker does a great job of describing each character and giving detail of each ones personality. She goes into great detail on Violet best friend Roger, who is an obnoxious boy who is always questioning things. The setting where the story takes place is very clear, and easy to visualize. She describes the weather and even temperature when Violet takes her trip to New York. One down side of the book was it kept somewhat of a slow pace for me. It was a great book, but it wasn’t one of those extreme page turner books, it took a little longer to get through, but the story does pick up towards the end. I would definitely recommend this book to any teenage girls. The book addresses many issues teen girl have today, and can help give some relief about self image and confidence. “You are beautiful and confident and wise. You handle all things with finesse and aplomb.”
